We Are Having the Same Terrible Thought

What it does

Two people reach the same grim conclusion and confirm it without needing to say the conclusion aloud.

Use it when

  • A shared glance completes the diagnosis.
  • Both witnesses notice the same problem.
  • Explaining would only make the fear more official.

For example

  1. The babysitters hear the house become suddenly quiet.
  2. Two editors notice the same missing chapter in the final proof.
  3. Both hikers look from the map to the identical fork behind them.
